I would disagree with your assessment. Sports aren't inherently conflict based; they are inherently competitive. Competition and conflict often have overlapping qualities, but they certainly aren't the same things. Competition isn't about attacking the other side to win; rather, it's proving to yourself and others how good you (or your team) are by challenging people to games. Competition can degrade to an "us vs them" mentality, but that isn't it's aim.
